Founded in 1905 in Fukui, Japan’s historic eyewear capital, MASUNAGA has shaped the very foundations of the Japanese optical industry. To this day, it remains the only eyewear manufacturer in Japan to oversee every stage of production under one roof, from raw material to final polish. That uncompromising vertical integration is not a marketing line but a philosophy, one that has defined the brand for more than a century. MASUNAGA is also uniquely authorized to produce eyewear for the Emperor of Japan, a distinction that speaks less to ceremony and more to the brand’s rarefied standards.
For Winter 2026, the house continues its disciplined, elegant design language, balancing heritage with contemporary clarity. Lightweight, highly flexible Japanese titanium frames take center stage, engineered for resilience without sacrificing refinement. Premium acetate appears in saturated, resonant hues, while considered metal and acetate pairings create subtle layering and architectural depth.
The silhouettes are clean and deliberate, with balanced proportions and restrained vintage inflections. Finely engraved details, sculpted bridges and precisely calibrated frame thickness lend presence without excess. The color palette draws from the quiet intensity of the Japanese winter: inky black, rich coffee and teal tones, navy blue, muted gold and warm metallic finishes that catch the light with restraint rather than spectacle.
